I still could remember how a fellow passenger exclaimed, "It sure looks like New York!" upon our arrival at Frankfurt. He must have been a Westerner like me. By the look of his face, I could tell that he was not that satisfied to learn that he will touring a
modern Frankfurt. Yes, this well-known town in Germany is not what it looked like several years ago. Business has grown, so we are likely to see skyscrapers here. Also, the city is too busy to even ask a tourist if he is lost.
However, I did not really planned to go to Frankfurt to have a quiet time. I wanted to discover the hustle and bustle in this side of Europe. Germany is a very powerful and economically stable country. It just occurred to me that each city in Germany is responsible for this huge success. Based on what I have seen in Frankfurt, my guess was right.
Frankfurt has already turned into a modern city. But, to my amazement, relics and historical monuments of the distant past are still maintained here. There were museums that showcase the works of famous painters and even feature the masterpieces of Goethe. But, unfortunately, I was not aware of the annual events, so I was not able to witness the musical festivals. Also, the government establishments still keep the memento left to them by the
great Roman empire. Frankfurt is a fusion of German and Roman culture. Traces of the influences could be found in restaurants serving Italian dishes, Italian-based companies, and Roman immigrants.
